Les Dunes festival returned to Anakin Skywalker’s home village

A 30-hour-non-stop electronic music festival returned after a 5-year hiatus to Ong Jemel in Tunisia, a place known to many who follow the Jedi as Mos Espa, on Tattooine, the home of Anakin Skywalker (Darth Vader).

Les Dunes Electroniques (“the Electronic Dunes”) resurfaced thanks the Tunisian tourist industry which gave support to a Franco-Tunisian hotelier, according to RFI, the same organisers behind Plages Electroniques in the French Riviera.

The event took place over two days at the southern border of Tunisia’s vast desert, which served as the stunning film setting for Luke Skywalker’s hometown Mos Espa in George Lucas’ original trilogy of films.

A treat for sci-fi and music fans alike, the festival hosted two main stages with performances by 30 DJs including Luciano, Apolllonia, Baris K, Archie Hamilton, Parallells and Nicolas Lutz. The previous event that was held in 2015 attracted names like Derrick May, Kolsch and Superpitcher.

22-year-old Melissa Fleury from France spoke to AFP, saying, “I love festivals in France, but here in the desert and in the midst of this landscape, it is magical.”
