KaZantip is not heading to Vietnam but something very similar is
Epizode will host Julia Govor, John 00 Flemming + 100 more on Phu Quoc Island
Rumors of KaZantip coming to Asia have been running rampant around the region for the last few weeks. We quickly discovered that the raucous Crimean festival was not heading east but that another very similar event called Epizode was coming to Vietnam for a two week long festival.
We also reached out to KaZantip directly who confirmed that KaZantip is not heading to Vietnam. “There is NO kaZantip in Vietnam. It’s not a sub-project of kaZantip,” they wrote.
The added that the event is not a reincarnation of KaZantip because it never died, alluding at the possibility of future events.
The KaZantip website also reads: “kaZantip is moving but stays at the black sea !!! sometimes kaZantip happens also in Hong Kong, Sydney, New York, Rio, Cape Town or wherever you dream of… but not in Vietnam !!!”
However the team executing Epizode used to work for a myriad of event brands such as SPACE Moscow, GIPSY, KONSTRUKTOR as well as KaZantip Republic and that seems to be where the confusion came from but it is also the only connection between KaZantip and Epizode.
That said because the team organizing Epizode comes from such a colorful background, this already has the makings of a legnedary event that will surely exude KaZantip feels. The first phase of the line-up for one was released last night and is already boasting an impressive and very long list of local and international talent.
International acts like Julia Grover, Alexid, Bushwacka and John 00 Flemming will make an appearance at the inaugural Vietnamese festival as well as heaps of local artists line-up like Dan Buri, Sunju Hargun, Marco Loco and Nakadia.
Interestingly you’ll also find Ten Walls on the bill, the Lithuanian artist that caused an uproar in the music industry last year after making comments deemed controversial by the dance music community. He’s recently been making a come back and this will be his first foray into Asia since.
See the full first line-up below.
Epizode runs from December 31st to January 14th on Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam, a stunning tropical island in southern Vietnam. It is also called the 'Island of 99 Mountains' as there are exactly 99 mountains descending from north to the south of the island.
Tickets and accommodation information are already on sale here.
Follow the event on Facebook here but note that most of the information is in Russian. We'll keep you updated with English information as we get it.
