Kavinsky found dead at home in Paris, aged 50

Influential French house artist Kavinsky has died at the age of 50, Le Figaro reports.

The DJ and producer, real name Vincent Belorgey, was found dead at his home in Paris yesterday, July 28, police confirmed.

While no further details were shared by police, sources told Le Figaro that Belorgey had reportedly complained of headaches for several days, suspecting that he suffered a stroke.

"An inquiry into the cause of death has been ‌opened ⁠to determine the circumstances, as first responders found no suspicious elements at the ⁠scene," they said.

Inspired by the French house scene of the 2000s, Kavinsky's productions spanned synthwave to electropop, collaborating with the likes of Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel and The Weeknd.

His 2010 track 'Nightcall' shot him to global success, landing a feature in the 2011 Ryan Gosling-starring film Drive, and earning him chart positions across Europe and an inclusion in Billboard’s Top 100.

In a rare 2022 interview with Mixmag, Belorgey explained: "At the time of 'Nightcall's' release, we didn’t feel much pressure except for the fact that we were releasing a track with one half of Daft Punk."

"I want people to talk to me about something other than ‘Nightcall’ now, even though Drive was a huge help for me and I still thank the director for including my music in it."

In 2024, following his return to music after a hiatus and his first album in over a decade, Belorgey performed alongside Belgian singer Angèle at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris.

Just several weeks ago, Belorgey made a surprise appearance during Prince85's set at the Stade de France in Paris as part of The Weeknd's After Hours Til Dawn Tour.
