Hinako Omori’s latest album combines inner healing & natural landscapes into ambient electronica

Yokohama-born London-based artist Hinako Omori is releasing a new album, titled a journey… via Houndstooth this March.

a journey… combines inner healing and natural landscapes into an immersive cartography of the mind in ambient electronics, which includes therapeutic frequencies, forest bathing and binaural sound. As the title suggests, the album is meant to be treated as a continuous journey instead of separated pieces and invites one to find moments of peace while listening.

"I've been thinking a lot about shinrin-yoku – forest bathing," explains Omori. "Being in that environment reduces stress levels, it's good for well-being, improving our memory and concentration, boosting our immune system and lowering blood pressure, among many other benefits – I wanted to incorporate that into the album."

Omori has always found the physical and psychological effects of frequencies an alluring subject. While making the album, she captured field recordings in the landscapes that surround her home studio and wove these sounds across the whole album.

"I’m very interested in sound therapy, brain entrainment, and how certain frequencies can put our brain in certain states - alpha, beta, theta, delta," she explains. "Delta (0.5-4Hz) waves for example are said to contribute to deep restorative sleep and healing, and theta (4-7Hz) to creativity, intuition and emotional processing."

Beginning her career as a sound engineer, Omori’s music is further influenced by the idea of space and infinity, and she uses ambient space-synths, field recordings and her own vocals to present the idea that nothing is permanent.
