Feel-good house is back with Adrien Calvet’s ‘Stay At Home Gringo’

Adrien Calvet has dropped his latest EP, ‘Stay At Home Gringo’, on his imprint Stay At Home Records.

This release showcases a vibrant shift towards a funky house sound, diverging from the more minimalistic, yet still funk-heavy approach of his previous work, while retaining his signature synth-heavy production.

'Stay At Home Gringo' brims with the 80s and 90s-inspired charm that Adrien is renowned for, but this time it's wrapped in an irresistibly groovy package. His previous releases had deep pockets of groove, but that sound is now front-and-centre laced with synths, acid and irresistible percussion.

It captures the essence of Adrien’s recent tour in Central America, hence the use of the word “gringo”. As he says, the atmosphere was “vibrant, with gringos mingling and locals warmly calling out, ‘¡Este es mi Gringo!’”.

The standout track is the opener, ‘Begin’. Its vivacious bassline, funk-heavy and bold, is perfectly complemented by mesmerising vocal samples and euphoric synth melodies.

It toes the line with cheesy, textbook drum fills, guitar twangs and vinyl scratches, but always remains firmly in the fun-loving enjoyable side of the spectrum without doing too much. It’s a track that you can’t help but dance to with a smile on your face—a fun-loving, incredibly enjoyable listen that we’re hoping to hear played out a bunch this summer.

When chatting to Mixmag Asia about the project, Adrien encapsulated the feel-good essence of the project, saying, “This EP is for all my gringos out there that got lost on the road in Latin America. Listen to the music you will find the way back home”. Doesn’t get much more feel-good energy than that.
