Hong Kong music community to honour DJ Kulu with memorial event
The evening on January 21 will feature live performances, tributes & a commemorative video with submissions invited via email

On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, Hong Kong’s music community will gather to celebrate the life and legacy of DJ Kulu, a cultural icon whose influence spanned decades.
The memorial event, hosted at The Big Top at the AIA Carnival on the Central Harbourfront, promises an evening of music, memories, and tributes befitting his contributions to the city’s vibrant cultural and musical landscape.

Born in 1945, DJ Kulu began his creative journey as a celebrated fashion photographer before pivoting to music at the age of 50.
Renowned for his eclectic sets that fused jazz, funk, and soul, he became a beloved figure in Hong Kong’s nightlife, performing at legendary venues like Kee Club, Amnesia, and Liquid.
Alongside collaborators such as DJ Ivan Sit and Oliver Smith, Kulu co-founded Ultralounge, a trailblazing collective that elevated the city’s music scene.

The evening will feature live performances and heartfelt tributes from friends, family, and fellow artists who were inspired by Kulu’s remarkable contributions to Hong Kong’s music scene.
A key highlight will be the screening of a video compilation showcasing images and footage of DJ Kulu, celebrating his vibrant life and the many people he connected with through music.
