Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter says he's "not interested" in AI

Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter has said he is not interested in the use of AI.
The French musician made the comments during an interview with Chanel's Arts, Culture and Heritage President Yana Peel at Art Basel in Basel, Switzerland, in June, which was later shared via the luxury brand's YouTube last week (July 29).

The former robot discussed his current creative process and his thoughts on technological advances, admitting he is “not really interested in the creative usage of artificial intelligence.”
"The most interesting part of the creative process is happening not at all on an intellectual level," he continues. "Where you’re actually going through a process which is about understanding your feelings.”

Bangalter is the latest musician to distance himself from the use of AI in music; in 2025, synth-pop legend Gary Numan shared his belief that the technology will "ultimately end mankind" and render musicians as "replaceable as a fucking cotton bud".
Earlier this summer at Art Basel, Thomas Bangalter made a surprise appearance at a "no-phones party" from events platform art.klub, performing for crowds at Messe Basel exhibition centre on a custom modular set-up featuring drum machines and analogue synths.
