Chalo dives deep on the nocturnally charged 'Anemoia' EP
The Thai artist arrives on More Rice Records alongside a D. Tiffany remix
Bangkok-based artist Chalo makes his More Rice Records debut with the hyper-atmospheric 'Anemoia' EP.
The producer and mastering engineer follows up on his recent outing on Boiled Wonderland with three brooding, breaks-driven cuts, while D. Tiffany completes the EP with a textured remix. The EP marks More Rice Record's first release of 2022, with the loveable team finally able to carve out some label time having been understandably preoccupied with the recent opening of their record store in downtown Bangkok.
True to Chalo's background in the dark arts of audio mastering, the intricately woven music is sonically splendid and ripe for being aired on heavyweight systems. From the sinister synths and confrontational snares of 'Doppelgänger' to the haunting melodies and oceanic sweeps of the title track, the EP overflows with nocturnal mystique and enigmatic intensity. The rolling breaks and off-kilter vocals of 'Recollection' complete Chalo's triad of compositions, with Planet Euphorique's D. Tiffany drafted in to reframe the final cut. Her rework maintains the intention of the original, switching up the rhythm and layering evocative overdubs to shift the music further into the shadows.
