Björk confirms that a new album is coming in 2027

Björk has confirmed that her next album will be released next year.

In an Instagram post shared on April 13, the Icelandic musician responded to rumours around the title of the forthcoming project, spurred on by her announcement of her "echolalia rave", which will take place in her home country during the total eclipse this summer, alongside Arca, Sideproject and Ronja Jóhannsdóttir.

In the statement, Björk clarified that "echolalia" is not the name of the album, which has been the subject of speculation since 2025, and is the title of her exhibition at Listasafn Íslands (National Gallery of Iceland) running from May to September 2026 – which will feature the echolalia rave as part of its programming.

"I saw all your comments and wanted to massage out a potential misunderstanding that has been floating around," Björk writes. "echolalia is not the title of my next album. it is an umbrella-exhibition-name."

However, in the post she did clarify that she will share a version of "a new song" in one of the rooms as part of the exhibition, alongside 'Ancestress' and 'Sorrowful Soil', which featured on her 2022 album 'Fossora'.

The new track is “a collaboration with 2 new incredible artists, which i will share later,” she goes on to explain. “But I want to be sincere with my fans (who are all of course delicious music-nerds) about the musical side of things: the new music is a version of a song. the final version will be on the new album in 2027.”

“Before you buy your tickets, I want to make sure that you know that I will not be sharing the final instrumentation of my next album until next year,” she continues.

“I know it is a long time, but five years passed between my last two albums and I enjoyed that enormously, I seem to spend longer every time in the world-building and it is extremely satisfying to align all the different elements (how equilibrium of me).”
