AUDIO ARCHITECTURE fuses space, time & music
The first must-see exhibit of 2021 has arrived in Taipei
To have their heads twisted into a musical loop, visitors must check out the AUDIO ARCHITECTURE experience, running until April 6 at Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei.
During scientific experiments, only one variable at a time should be tested. When a variable is kept unchanged, it is called the control. The AUDIO ARCHITECTURE exhibition is designed for audiences to experience the structure of a musical piece while changing a single variable each time. The control is the music, but each of the nine Japanese artists makes their own interpretation of the music by changing one feature.
Yugo Nakamura, one of the authors of New Masters Of Flash, whose artworks have been shown at Center Pompidou in Paris and the Design Museum in London to name a few, is the director for this exhibition. Known for utilizing mathematics’ natural complexities to create online interactions, this time Nakamura partnered up with Cornelius, a Japanese musician and producer who co-founded the influential Shibuya-kei band, Flipper's Guitar. Cornelius composed the piece for the exhibition that is heard inside the space, however with a different feeling each time.
The exhibition is trying to audio the architecture, meaning to create a feeling within the space at a dynamic pace. Our experiences and behaviours are easily affected by what we see or hear or by what we don’t see or hear in a space.
Imagine listening to the experimental track Cornelius composed that repeats and summarizes the core value of the exhibition with the lyrics, "Into the music / Music don’t stop / Time, space and music,” then seeing nine Japanese artists’ own interpretation of the song on a 25-meter high projection wall. This builds a perfect dynamic place for viewers to forget about space and time and just feel the music.
