Music streams grew by almost 10% to 5.1 trillion in 2025

There were 5.1 trillion music streams globally in 2025, according to a new report from Luminate.

Revealed as part of the entertainment data specialist's 2025 Year-End Music Report, the eye-watering figure represents a 9.6% increase from 4.7 trillion in 2024. However, tracks with between one million and 50 million global streams made up just under half (49%) of all music streaming.

Luminate estimates that around 541,000 tracks make up the "backbone" of global streams, out of 253 million streamed globally last year; just 29 tracks surpassed one billion global streams; 120 million tracks had just 10 streams or under in 2025, while 62.6 million racked up between 10-100 listens.

The report also found that Spotify and YouTube tied for most electronic/dance streams last year, while listeners chose Apple Music and YouTube to listen to R&B and hip hop.

Other interesting findings include a 44.6% surge in Daft Punk's catalogue following the duo's 'Alive' Fortnite collaboration in August, with the announcement garnering around 1.1 million streams in just one week alone.

The United States was the top music exporter globally in 2025, followed closely by the United Kingdom, with pop being the US' biggest genre export, and rock being the UK's most popular sound internationally.
