AI detected in 40% of music released in July, study reveals
By analysing over a million releases, SubmitHub’s AI music detector found that the use of AI in production is prevalent
Almost 40% of music released globally last month showed signs of AI involvement in the production process, a new study from SubmitHub reveals.
The study found that, of more than a million releases that were analysed using SubmitHub’s AI music detector in July, 23.2% of them were fully AI-generated.
It also revealed that an additional 15.3% showed signs of AI-generated audio that had been "modified or processed" by humans, meaning almost 40% of all music released in the month of July was created with the involvement of AI.

SubmitHub, a platform allowing users to submit music to playlists and blogs, unveiled its AI detection tool, SH Labs, in June, aiming to highlight a "growing disclosure problem".
"I think the path forward for AI music is disclosure," SubmitHub founder Jason Grishkoff says. "People should be able to decide for themselves whether they want to engage with AI-generated music. Our job is to give them enough information to make that choice."
The data collected by SubmitHub also showed that 31% of artists whose music was deemed to contain AI when released this year said that they had not used any AI tools when asked by the platform.

The AI detection tool is currently being used by the likes of Bandcamp and Traxsource to uncover the use of artificial intelligence when making music, as well as GEMA, a performance rights organisation who recently won a landmark court case against AI music generator platform Suno.
The ruling was made in July, finding that Suno was not entitled to use music represented by GEMA to train its AI models, and that Suno was in breach of both the German and US copyright law.
