The Layover: DJ Bowlcut reveals there's more to kimchi & singing bowls than we know
Bowlcut is Seoul Community Radio's Chief Music Director
Turntablist, DJ, producer, community builder and all-round regional raver, DJ Bowlcut has become an integral element of Asia's underground music movement. In addition to co-running Seoul Community Radio from it's early days as the Chef Music Director, Bowlcut has been a supporting factor for plenty of DJs and producers in Korea, as well as around the region. As an artist, he's honed a sound in Korea that very few have taken up (at least not to his benchmark), priming himself on left-of-field house and techno, usually meandering the lanes of energetic house styles and forward-thinking bass music. His ever-growing discography includes Korea based label Honey Badger Records, Berlin Bass Collective, Phutureshock Music and Nerang Recordings. We also hear he's levelling up his YouTube channel ‘Bowlcutsquad’ into a new label, and a debut release is just around the corner this spring.
For this edition of The Layover, Bowlcut has a message for vegans, praises new local talent and gives us his lowdown from touring the region over the last few years (excluding this last year, of course).
