Mengzy Selects - 027 / September
Mixmag Asia's bass purveyor Mengzy shares her musical discoveries from around the region
Welcome to ‘Mengzy Selects’, a monthly video column which features five recently released tracks by producers and labels in Asia and across the Asian diaspora. Your host is Mengzy: a Hong Kong-based DJ and producer, PhD in musicology, music journalist, and co-founder of Feed the Dragon.

L-Side, Makoto, Frank H. Carter III ‘What You Won’t Do for Love’
V Recordings’ latest coup is a gorgeous liquid revival of 1978’s ‘What You Won’t Do for Love’. Boasting all new instrumentals and vocals by Frank H. Carter III, the Makoto and L-Side-produced track has been coveted by D&B heads for at least a year and finally dropped on September 20.

Seimei ‘Do This Shit’
“This is the sound of the East” is what Seimei declares on ‘Do This Shit’, a new track bound to become an anthem for Tokyo selectors. Shouting out the city’s districts (with his own processed vocals, mind you), the TREKKIE TRAX resident brings a strong Detroit flair to this killer tune.

Eich & Korzi ‘Smoke City’
And in exciting news for UK techno, Left, Right & Centre co-founder Korzi and More Cowbell head Eich recently released ‘Smoke City’. The single marks the first time Korzi has brought in a collaborator to his Bone Idle imprint and it’s a stark, percussive workout over weighty 4/4.

Romain FX ‘Rhapsodizery’
Delight in stabs, melodic bass, and sonic nostalgia with ‘Rhapsodizery’ by Romain FX. It’s the first time the label head has released a standalone single on Hong Kong-based Fauve Records and in it, he’s channelled all of his - and the label’s - house, wave, and Italo DNA…

PRIMIT ‘V2’
Explosive electro is one way to describe ‘V2’ by Seoul-based producer PRIMIT. Featuring Prodigy-influenced vocals, intense mid-range, and hooky drum fills, our last pick for this month is rave-ready and not for the faint-hearted.
