Thomas Bangalter has shared a new playlist his favourite film scores.

The selection includes specially commissioned film music, such as 'Sister Sara's Theme' by Ennio Morricone for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, and tracks made famous by their use in films, such as bluegrass composition 'Dueling Banjos', which was written in 1954 and popularised by its use in 1927 thriller film Deliverance.

The playlist lands to celebrate the release of Bangalter's original soundtrack for new film DAAAAAALÍ!, which was composed and performed by the former Daft Punk member and came out today via Ed Banger Records.

Described as a "real-fake-biopic" following the life of surrealist artist Salvador Dali, DAAAAAALÍ! is a French comedy film written and directed by Quentin Dupieux.

Speaking about the soundtrack, Ed Banger boss Busy P said: "Both Thomas and Quentin had a pretty clear idea of how the music could and should become a character in the film. Stepping out of his comfort zone, Thomas used only an ancient zither and recorded it in his Parisian studio. He delivered this repetitive theme from the 1930s that gets directly into your head and perfectly aligns with the surreal vision of this brilliant director. This record celebrates the golden age of music and cinema, with the director and composers all sharing a love for classic and timeless film scores."

The soundtrack, for DAAAAAALÍ! is available for purchase in a limited edition 10”, as well as digitally through streaming services.

Busy P AKA Pedro Winter added: "Releasing this soundtrack with two of my all-time favourite artists felt like a natural and obvious choice! Since ‘Steak’ in 2007, Ed Banger Records has released most of Quentin Dupieux's original soundtracks. When he told me he wanted to involve Thomas Bangalter in his project DAAAAAALÍ!, I knew it would become something special."

Bangalter has been broadening his musical horizons beyond electronic music and working on solo projects since the Robots split in 2021. Last year he released 'Mythologies’, his first composition for orchestra, performed by the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine under the direction of Romain Dumas. It was originally composed for a French ballet of the same name, co-created by choreographer Angelin Preljocaj.

He previously co-wrote the soundtrack for 2010 sci-film Tron: Legacy as part of Daft Punk.

Though Daft Punk split in 2021, former collaborator and session drummer Quinn, recently revealed the French-electronic duo are sitting on a fifth album: "I keep checking in. I’m told they’re working on it," Quinn, revealed.
