Halloween Happenings: events across Asia this spooky season

Whether or not you’re into jack-o-lanterns, cat costumes and face paint, there's no denying that Halloween is one of the year’s most sought-after weekends for all party-goers, and this year is no exception.

Looks like Asia's got everything; from 10-hour marathon raves in Taipei to street parties in Manila and experimental bass nights in Hong Kong to events on rooftop helipads in Kuala Lumpur.

Here are a few of our picks of the hardest Halloween happenings in cities across the region.

October 31st - Haunted House @ AVVE

Bangkok’s multi-story AVVE is turning all five floors into a Halloween playground, with 18 acts across three stages, covering house, techno, and drum and bass, courtesy of Kryptonite, No Signal and Underground Sound Lab.

November 1 - Unusual Suspects: Freak’o’ween @ Bamboo Rooftop Bar

Although newcomers, Unusual Suspects have recently been at the forefront of Bangkok’s UK scene, and their Halloween edition is their most ambitious yet. With 18 artists across two stages and a flurry of UKG, breaks, bass, electro, hard techno, and ghetto, this one’s going until sunrise – a sadly seldom sight in Bangkok these days. October 30 - YALLAWEEN with Giammarco Orsini + Per Hammer @ Yalla

New kid on the block Yalla has been making waves in Hong Kong’s CBD, and YALLAWEEN looks set to be another standout night. Headliners Giammarco Orsini and Per Hammer bring their top-tier grooves to the floor starting from 6pm.

November 2 - Goldway 高威 presents: Gyre with Tadan (area127, Lithuania) @ Yalla

Goldway 高威 is bringing Lithuania’s Tadan to Hong Kong on Halloween weekend for a hypnotic blend of deep, ambient, and psy-tech sounds, accompanied by top local talents.

November 2 - VNWAVE presents: MSSV 002 Bungalovv / Fujita Pinnacle @ SLAP 拍

As part of their experimental bass music series MSSV, SLAP 拍 are bringing VNWAVE, joined by Bungalovv and Fujita Pinnacle to Hong Kong. Expecting an avant-garde masterclass, with artists know for their high-energy experimental bass-driven sound on the 1’s and 2’s

November 1-2 - Scream or Dance Festival @ Carnaval Beach, Ancol

Jakarta’s two-day Scream or Dance Festival, headlined by Jonas Blue and Yellow Claw, is going all out for Halloween. It might lean toward the commercial side, but if you’re in Jakarta and looking for a big one, this one’s got you covered.

October 30 - Jambu Jambu Asia Halloween Edition @ Helipad KL

Jambu Jambu is back to the rooftop for their 11th edition of The Landing at KL’s iconic helipad. With local heavy hitters providing the soundtrack, and some of the best views of the city, it’s not one to be missed.

October 31 - Halloween Invasion Street Party @ Don Pedro St., Poblacion Makati

Manila’s switching things up this Halloween with a massive multi-street interactive party. Entire streets are themed, including post-apocalyptic and sci-fi, complete with immersive and interactive zones. Kicking off at 6pm and running deep into the night, it’s set to be an ambitious, next-level Halloween experience.

November 1-3 - Babaloop x Bogeyman @ Baba Beach Club

Baba Beach Club’s Babaloop is teaming up with Bogeyman, the sub-label of Cuttin’ Headz, with a killer line-up including Fleur Shore, AJ Christou and Jesse Calosso alongside local heavy hitters. It’s at the same spot as Circoloco Thailand, and attendees in decent costumes even have a chance to win some tickets too.

November 1 - Warehouse Grave: Dance Of The Dead @ Seekers Spirits

This year for their annual celebration, Secret Guests have mixed things up with a Day Of The Dead-themed celebration, alongside Mexican collective Artistika Tulum, inside a 400-cap warehouse in the heart of Phnom Penh. Worth experiencing, for sure. Get tickets via Mixmag Asia here.

October 25 - BDSM: Birth, Death, Swan Meat @ iki

In a collaborative effort between Subplot Systems and Hyperfocus, SWAN MEAT makes her Singapore debut. With her style referred to as “medieval rave”, and her productions as “demented funk strut[s]”, seems like an apt Halloween act.

October 26 - DION: A FOMOHOMO HALLOWEEN SPECIAL @ Headquarters

Once again, FOMOHOMO hit a leading event in Singapore on the 26th complete with a stacked line-up, and performances from iconic drag outfit The Blaque Coven.

October 31-November 2 - A Halloweekend Trilogy @ Behind The Green Door

In a weekender from one of our newest, must-visit spots in Singapore, expect three fun-loving events starting with a cartoon-themed bash, a cosmic trip with Fiona Kraft, and finishing with a Día de los Muertos rave featuring Trikk, in all of which costumes are highly encouraged.

October 30 - Strangeweather x Crevice @ SANTAi

Strangeweather and Crevice join forces for SANTai's halloween event, including the 5th edition of Drink and Ink. Expect a spine-chilling mix of live tattoos from 3pm and Strange Weather takeover kicking off at 8pm. Costumes are a must – don’t skimp.

October 26 - KINGDOM @ FINAL

As FINAL (and PURE G) ramp up for the second edition of eel festival in a few weeks, they’re bringing the always mind-bending Kingdom to the heart of the capital.

November 2 - Halloween Marathon @ Studio 9

Studio 9 returns with its infamous annual Halloween marathon. With stages hosted by Nos Obscura, Reprobate, and Bass Kitchen, this 10-hour session features 5 international acts, 22 local talents, and 3 stages in a non-stop unapologetic barrage of sound.
