Bangkok set to host a Muay Thai match for DJs

Rumble in the Club – a DJ fight night – is preparing six popular Bangkok based DJs to step into the ring for the first time in their lives.

The event will take place on Sunday April 3rd, a time when many DJs would normally be either heading home from the party or even still to the after party. But for the next five weeks there won’t be any of those shenanigans as they undergo rigorous training and give up nearly all the hedonistic indulgences that normally define a DJs life.

Some of them have never trained Muay Thai at all but will spend the next month undergoing basic combat training at the Elite Boxing Gym in Bangkok. We saw videos of the training and it looked…horrifying.

Live RCA, one of Bangkok’s most popular underground music nightclubs, will transform its dance floor into a boxing ring for one evening and the DJs will faceoff in front of their friends for three rounds of two minutes each.

The matchups are as follows:

Dan Buri vs Tekayu Harrington
Alex Fischer vs Tim Kopp
Matteo Ianna (Ikono) vs Cedric Gautier (DJ Kaio)

The fighters were selected based on their reach and effervescent personalities. As such, trash talking between fighters and the public is welcome and encouraged via social media – in a lighthearted way of course. The objective of the ridicule is meant to be fun and cheerful in order to generate hype. While it is not a professional fight per say, it will use elements of Muay Thai to put on a good show and hopefully surprise spectators.

There will, however, be two professional bouts added to the bill.

Standard tickets are 650THB and VIP will run you 1,000THB with 20% of proceeds going to a charity for women and victims of child abuse. With the admission also comes a party (obviously, this still the music industry). The garden at Live RCA will have DJs, a fully stocked bar with food also available on site.

The event kicks of at 6pm with fights commencing around 8:30pm. The full show including the fighters themed entrances will be viewable on a Jumbotron, also allowing for live streaming of the event. At 11pm, expect a full on club night where hopefully the fighters will be well, walking and retoxing. DJs, who will be announced at a later date, will play until 2am.

Visit the Facebook event for more information.
