Dive into the diverse sounds of ‘Make Italo Disco Great Again Vol.3’

Paris’ Cracki Records and Hong Kong-based label Fauve Records have joined forces in presenting a compilation that caters to the need of a genre that’s been quite in demand. Care to guess which one?

Described as a “worldwide, eclectic, banger, fresh, tribute” by Cracki label head Donatien Cras de Belleval, ‘Make Italo Disco Great Again Vol. 3’ first teased its sound in late October via the tracks ‘Dolce Fragola’ by Maltitz and ‘Stop Trying To Sound Like The Chromatics (My GF Says)’ by Berlin-based duo COEO.

A second drop of tracks were provided by Mangabey’s ‘Totalitalia’ and Tre Turner’s ‘Counting’ on November 9. We were graced by the full release of the compilation just two days ago on December 7.

Fauve Records head honcho Romain FX states exclusively to Mixmag Asia; “We really wanted to push artists from all over the world that didn't have much of a voice in this scene; to give them the chance to show the world their personal takes on the genre.”

The release also comes with a limited edition t-shirt for those who want to proudly rep their musical preference.

The compilation is dedicated to all lovers of feel-good, funky beats. From the very first track, we’re bestowed with shoulder-shaking percussive rhythms from Mangabey. Maltitz then introduces us to the signature rapturous synth sounds of the genre before Arash & Quasar present their melodic two-steppin’ jam ‘Svoboda’.

Tre Turner continues to bring forth Italo disco eminence with his darker-sounding dance tune, followed by the warm, crisp synths of COEO’s almost-seven-minute cut.

Closing the compilation is Romain FX’s ‘Elephantom’ which surprises us with an upbeat arrangement of sonic elements that show just how great Italo disco can get.

Cras de Belleval chimes in once again on the matter, stating “Italo disco can be hot and cold at the same time. If you mix Philadephia and Napoli, it will end up being something really special.”
