UNKNWN event series welcomes house and techno to Manila

Manila is a city that is oft neglected when it comes to the underground music map in Asia but there are a few people that are set to change that this year.

UNKNWN is Manila’s latest event series slated to launch this weekend and is the city’s solution to its stagnant nightlife. Through its events, it aims to cultivate a stronger scene in Manila by creating a community and building a platform for local and international artists to perform at.

The concept will see 12 events take place over the course of the next 8 months, with 4 being daytime events happening on the rooftop of the Firefly Roofdeck at City Garden Grand in Makati. The first of the UNKNWN.DAY series is this upcoming Saturday and will feature Crosstown Rebels mainstay Francesca Lombardo.

Following this, UNKNWN.NIGHT kicks off with Berghain resident Answer Code Request. The evening portion of the series will embody a bit of an old school rave vibe with locations and artists only being announced in the days prior to the event.

What is known is that the evening events will take place at various pop-up locations or clubs around the city and will always be executed with the highest of quality in mind and feature a Funktion One sound system. The events will also be limited in capacity and spots can be reserved by e-mailing [email protected].

UNKNWN always plans to bring some of the most avant-garde and in demand artists from Europe and Asia's more niche house and techno scenes, and considering they’re kicking off with Francesca Lombardo and Answer Code Request, electronic music lovers in Manila have finally got a lot to look forward to.

It seems the Philippine is well on its way to developing a house and techno community with UNKNWN taking charge and leading the way.
