Sónar expands to Hong Kong in 2017

With the flagship Spain edition now closed for 2016, Sónar has unveiled big plans to make not one, but two international jumps next year.

Fans in Asia of the legendary Spanish festival, which just wrapped up this past weekend in Barcelona, who have never been able to make the trip will now be able to experience Sónar in Hong Kong. The music and technology festival will land there on April 1 for a one day edition.

Local, regional and international artists and DJs will perform on six different stages during the evening portion of the event with the daytime being reserved for digital art experiences and installations.

The event will be executed by Magnetic Asia, the same group behind Clockenflap and Your Mum events.

Justin Sweeting, Magnetic Asia's music director, said to the South China Morning Post: "Marrying our company’s experience and outlook with Sónar’s vision and international standing, we feel we can make a real and positive difference [in Hong Kong].”

“It’s important to understand all that Sonar as an event offers and all its various touch points," he added. "On the music side, we hope it continues to push the momentum [of the electronic music scene] forwards, and enables people to take a wider-spectrum view of electronic music.

The venue, line-up and ticketing information is expected to be announced in the coming months. Stay up-to-date on the Sónar Hong Kong website here.

The festival has also announced its debut edition in Istanbul on March 24 and 25 at the Zorlu Performing Arts Center. 2017 will also see Sónar return to Reykjavik, Stockholm and through a run of cities in Latin America including Bogota, Buenos Aires and Santiago.
