A 50-piece orchestra will perform a concert honoring 25 years of music from Zouk Singapore

After spending 25 impressionable years on Jiak Kim Street in Singapore, Zouk closed its iconic doors a few months ago. While a new location has since reopened in Clarke Quay, many of the club’s beloved fans will forever hold onto 25 years of memories from the first location and will appreciate the latest initiative to honor the club’s tenure.

The team over at The Henderson Project have conceptualized a concept called One More Time – A Tribute to Zouk at Jiak Kim Street, which present 25 years of music performed by a 50-piece orchestra that will aim to recreate the club's groove and vibe but on on a grander scale.

Aldrin, a long-time Zouk resident DJ, music director and ambassador, along with renowned conductor Indra Ismail, are helming the project. Selena Tan, founder of Dream Academy, is directing the concert with help from media personality Najip Ali who will serve as a creative consultant.

Many of Singapore’s finest musicians and vocalists are also onboard for the project including the co-concertmaster of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra Lynnette Seah, Indian classical tabla player M S Maniam, accomplished jazz singer Rani Singam, former frontman of legendary alt-rock band Zircon Lounge X’Ho, Darker Than Wax saxophonist KAYE and and many more.

Speaking about the project, Ali told Bandwagon: "We hope that the concert will revolutionize the music scene the same way that Jiak Kim Street did, and that audiences will come and celebrate with us a culturally significant feat when one of our home-grown institutions put a little street in Singapore on the world map.”

The music will be taken from a mix put together by Aldrin and be performed live by a traditional orchestra, supplemented with modern instruments. It will combine and connect generations of music and include sounds from genres like trip-hop and big beat to house and techno. All music will be accompanied by vocals as well.

Don’t expect this to be a stiff show, the venue will turn into a nightclub and be followed by an afterparty.

One More Time – A Tribute to Zouk at Jiak Kim Street will take place at historic Capitol Theatre on 24 and 25 March at 8.30pm. Tickets can be purchased here.
