12-year-old Japanese DJ Rena sets a new world record as the youngest DMC world champion

Over the weekend, 12-year-old DJ Rena won the 2017 DMC World Championship, making him the youngest competitor in its history to take home the prize.

The battle, in collaboration with Technics and Ortoon, has been running for over 30 years.

The Japanese scratch DJ beat out artists from 16 different countries, joining the ranks of past winners DJ Craze, Mixmaster Mike and Q-bert.

In 1997, A-trak famously won the same title when he was 15, astonishing the world as the then-youngest victor.

Earlier this year, DJ Perly became the first ever female to win the DMC US Finals.

There is no official video footage yet of Rena's six minute champion performance but watch a clip at the 54-minute mark of his set.

See him DJ in his Goldie Awards submission video below.
